Mrs Aaliyah

Mrs Aaliyah started teaching in 2016. She lives with her husband Zaid and loves baking, cooking, reading and playing the violin!! Mrs Aaliyah has always enjoyed David Walliams (the children's author) because he is funny and she loves science because it's hands on and fun. Mrs Aaliyah's favourite colour is purple and her favourite song is Believe.  When Mrs Aaliyah was younger she wanted to be an actress and did you know that she can speak three languages?! If you see Mrs Aaliyah around school don't be afraid to say Hi!!

Mrs Allen

Mrs Allen shares Room 17 with Mrs Rolfe in Pod 4 at Shelly Park School.  When she was younger she had ALWAYS wanted to be a teacher and has accomplished her dream.  She started off her teaching at Papatoetoe Central, which is a primary school.  Mrs Allen’s favourite colours are blue and pink, and she loves to listen to any type of music (except heavy metal) with her children, Kahlan and Sam.  She loves to run, sew, knit and especially read and her favourite book is Alex by Tessa Duder.

Mrs Atkin

Mrs Atkin shares Room 13 with Mrs Mills in Pod 3 at Shelly Park School.  She has also taught at Anchorage Park School, Point View and Owairoa.  Her favourite colour is turquoise and she loves to listen to ‘Marry You’ by Bruno Mars.  Mrs Atkin’s favourite children's authors are Lynley Dodd and Eric Carle, and the whole web crew were quite surprised that she could flare her nostrils. She loves to read, play netball, hang out with kids (Gabby and Trent - who also go to Shelly Park), and scuba dive.  Did you that she loves to scuba dive on old ship wrecks? Mrs Atkin wanted to be an archaeologist when she was younger!  We all love having Mrs Atkin as a teacher.  Be sure to say hi when you see her around the playground.

Mrs Balais

Mrs Balais began teaching in Pod 2 in 2015.  She has been teaching for over 16 years and has also taught in Europe.  Mrs Balais isn’t just a teacher, she is also a mum of two children.  Her daughter Luana and son Alex are students at Shelly Park School.  Before she was a teacher, Mrs Balais was a pschycologist.   She loves reading Lynely Dodd because she has a way of rhyming things, and her favourite colour is turquoise.  Every summer Mrs Balais goes shark fishing.

Miss Cullum

Miss Cullum works in Pod 4 in Room 16 and Shelly Park School is the first school she has taught at.  Miss Cullum likes to hang out with her family and friends, and she loves cooking. Her favourite children's author is Roald Dahl and her favourite song is Heart of Life by John Mayer.  Blue is her favourite colour and when was a kid, she wanted to be a photographer.  Miss Cullum’s special talent is to sing and she has a beautiful singing voice.

Mr Fan

At the start of Term 3 in 2016 Mr Fan began teaching at Shelly Park School. Mr Fan has lived in three places: Taiwan, New Zealand and London. He taught at a school in London then moved back to New Zealand to teach at Papatoetoe North Primary, and now he teaches here. His favourite book to read to his students is The Gruffalo. When Mr Fan was younger he really wanted to go to the Olympic Games because his favourite thing to do is exercise and while he is exercising he loves to listen to all types of music except heavy metal! Did you know that Mr Fan used to come to our very own Shelly Park School when he was younger? If you see Mr Fan around be sure to say hi!

Miss Higham

Miss Higham is a new teacher at our school and you can find her in Room 8, in Pod 1. She comes from South Africa and lives with her mum, dad and younger sister, Kerryn. When she was younger, Miss Higham wanted to be a photographer and she still loves to take photos of children. Her favourite author is Roald Dahl because he writes exciting stories and Miss Higham’s favourite song is “Happy” by Pharrell. She loves the colour turquoise and her favourite thing to do is watch the All Blacks play live on TV, and also chill on the beach.

Mr Lyford

Mr Lyford

Mr Lyford started teaching at Shelly Park School in 2014. We discovered that he is a cool, sporty guy who loves maths, pizza and rugby. Mr Lyford completed his teaching degree at Auckland University. When he was little, Mr Lyford wanted to be either a fire fighter or a policeman but decided on becoming a teacher while at college. Did you know that Mr Lyford went to Shelly Park School? (And so did his three younger brothers). Now for some fun facts... Mr Lyford's heroes are the All Blacks, and his choice of super power is invisibility! Could the students and parents of Shelly Park School please say "Hi" to Mr Lyford  if you see him around, and give him a warm Shelly Park welcome.

Miss Page

Miss Page began teaching at Shelly Park School in 2014. She is a lovely teacher who originally wanted to be a physiotherapist. Miss Page went to St Heliers and studied at Auckland University. Some of her hobbies include reading, writing, shopping and netball. Above all, she enjoys teaching writing the best. Miss Page has a favourite author... Roald Dahl. Her fears are flying (in a plane) and thunder. We all hope Miss Page has a fantastic time teaching at Shelly Park.

Mr Rijns

Mr Rijns started teaching at Shelly Park School in 2017 after being a student teacher in Room 17. In 1999 Mr Rijns immigrated to NZ from South Africa and after school, he went to Auckland University where he got a Bachelor of Health Sciences and then a Masters in Teaching. When he was younger Mr Rijns wanted to be a surgeon or a paediatric doctor. He loves reading Dr Seuss's books and his favourite colour is blue. Mr Rijns enjoys exercising and listening to music for relaxation. Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran is one of his favourite songs, but he also likes Rosen Aus Dem Sϋden Opus 388 by Andrē Rieu. His special talent is playing the guitar and he loves to play music for his sister while she sings.

Mrs Robson

Mrs Robson is a teacher in Room 3a this year and before that she used to teach in Christchurch.  She lives with her husband Darren and her two sons Zarnder and Fox.  When she was younger Mrs Robson wanted to be a hairdresser.  Her favourite colour is green and her favourite song is 'Titanium' by Sia.  Mrs Robson loves Joy Cowley’s book Greedy cat and her special talent is cooking.  For fun Mrs Robson enjoys fishing at her local beach. Did you know that Mrs Robson has two cats, Friday who has 3 legs and Juno who has one eye?

Mrs Wood

Mrs Wood taught in Pod 4 for five years and is now teaching in Pod 2.  She lives with her husband Justin, her two daughters Rachel and Caity and two kitties called Gypsy and Pixie.  When Mrs Wood was younger, she wanted to be a marine biologist, a hairdresser, or a teacher.  Before she was a teacher, she was a photographer and she still loves taking photos of children, animals and the beautiful scenery in New Zealand.  Mrs Wood loves the band Opshop and her favourite colours are purple and teal.  During the summer, Mrs Wood enjoys camping with her family and ocean swimming with her husband.
