Mrs Allen shares Room 17 with Mrs Rolfe in Pod 4 at Shelly Park School. When she was younger she had ALWAYS wanted to be a teacher and has accomplished her dream. She started off her teaching at Papatoetoe Central, which is a primary school. Mrs Allen’s favourite colours are blue and pink, and she loves to listen to any type of music (except heavy metal) with her children, Kahlan and Sam. She loves to run, sew, knit and especially read and her favourite book is Alex by Tessa Duder.

Mrs Atkin shares Room 13 with Mrs Mills in Pod 3 at Shelly Park School. She has also taught at Anchorage Park School, Point View and Owairoa. Her favourite colour is turquoise and she loves to listen to ‘Marry You’ by Bruno Mars. Mrs Atkin’s favourite children's authors are Lynley Dodd and Eric Carle, and the whole web crew were quite surprised that she could flare her nostrils. She loves to read, play netball, hang out with kids (Gabby and Trent - who also go to Shelly Park), and scuba dive. Did you that she loves to scuba dive on old ship wrecks? Mrs Atkin wanted to be an archaeologist when she was younger! We all love having Mrs Atkin as a teacher. Be sure to say hi when you see her around the playground.
Mrs Balais began teaching in Pod 2 in 2015. She has been teaching for over 19 years and has also taught in Europe. Mrs Balais isn’t just a teacher, she is also a mum of two children. Her daughter Luana and son Alex are students at Shelly Park School. Before she was a teacher, Mrs Balais was a psychologist. She loves reading Lynley Dodd because she has a way of rhyming things, and her favourite colour is turquoise. Every summer Mrs Balais enjoys spending time pottering in the garden and relaxing at the beach.

Mrs Bayly lives with her husband and has four adult children, the youngest two are twins. She has been teaching Shelly Park students for over 30 years but had a break while her children were young. She enjoys sailing, photography and gardening. Mrs Bayly loves to play the piano and enjoys training the school choir. She loves reading inspiring biographies and her favourite children’s author is Roald Dahl because of his entertaining stories and humorous characters. Mrs Bradbury is the head of Pod 3. She lives with her husband Wayde, and her two children- Neve and Max. In their family they also have a dog called Shelby and two cats - Sid and Stu. Mrs Bradbury has been teaching for over eight years and has taught at St Joseph’s School. When Mrs Bradbury was younger, she always wanted to be a doctor but she decided she really wanted to be a teacher. Mrs Bradbury’s favourite song is ‘Viva La Vida’ by Cold Play and her favourite colour is purple. She has an obsession with cute and fluffy pandas and her favourite book is The Magic Far Away Tree by Enid Blyton.
Mrs Brown lives in Dannemora with her husband Cameron and her two boys Braden and Josh. She has been teaching for over 20 years at Pigeon Mountain Primary and Shelly Park School. Before she was a teacher Mrs Brown worked in a club called ‘Grapes’ where she enjoyed the loud music and disco atmosphere. Mrs Brown’s favourite song is ‘Up Town Funk’ because she likes the beat and the funky words. Mrs Brown loves to travel around the world with her husband who is a triathlete. Her favourite colour is blue and she loves collecting original art. Mrs Brown adores the children’s author Enid Blyton because of the interesting characters and the adventure plots.

Mr Corbett is our new caretaker at Shelly Park. He lives with his wife and his cat. Before he was a caretaker, he was a linesman, a water carrier and a poultry specialist. His favourite colour is purple. Mr Corbett wanted to be in the army when he was 6 because he lived in Hong Kong. He enjoys reading and his favourite author is Isaac Asimov. His favourite song is Bolero. Did you know that he can fix almost anything?!

Mrs Dove lives with her lovely family: Tony, Sarah, Katie, her two cats Iris and Pearl and her grandson Benjamin. She has been working for over thirty years and has taught at other schools in New Zealand and also helped in Australian schools. Her favourite author is Eric Carle because he is a very good illustrator. When she was little, Mrs Dove wanted to be a writer and before she was a teacher, she was a journalist. Her favourite song is ‘Walking on Sunshine’ and her favourite colour is blue.
Mrs Hales started teaching at Shelly Park School in 2014 in Pod 1. She lives with her husband, Pat, and three kids, Kelly, Matthew and Bianca. Enid Blyton is her favourite author because she makes you want to be one of the characters. Mrs Hales always wanted to be a teacher when she was little and she worked at ASB Bank before starting to teach. Her favourite song is ‘All about That Bass’ by Megan Trainer. Blue is her favourite colour and she’s also involved in musical theatre!
Mrs Hayward started teaching in Pod 1 and is now in Pod 2. She lives with her husband Joe, children Ariana and Tyler, as well as her father-in-law Steve and her step children Keegan and Caitlin. Mrs Hayward has been teaching for 10 years and before she was a teacher, she wa an accountant in London for 5 years. When she was little, Mrs Hayward wanted to be a traveller or an author. Her favourite children's author is Rick Riordan because of the links to history and the adventure. Mrs Hayward loves the colour fire engine red and her favourite song is "We are the Champions" by Queen. In her spare time, Mrs Hayward enjoys reading and making cool cakes for birthdays.

Miss Higham started out in the Junior School but you can find her in Pod 4 in Room 15. She comes from South Africa and lives with her mum, dad and younger sister, Kerryn. When she was younger, Miss Higham wanted to be a photographer and she still loves to take photos of children. Her favourite author is Roald Dahl because he writes exciting stories and Miss Higham’s favourite song is “Happy” by Pharrell. She loves the colour turquoise and her favourite things to do are to watch the All Blacks play live on TV, and also chill on the beach.

Mrs McCracken is one of the coolest teachers at Shelly Park. She has two daughters and a cat called Maximus McCrackapus. When she was little she wanted to be a dentist because she wanted to pull teeth out. Creative and artistic things are her favourite things to do, and Mrs McCracken likes to listen to the song 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams. She likes eating mushrooms, hokey pokey ice cream and purple wine gums. Her favourite book is Pride and Prejudice. She thinks all colours are cool except for orange.

Mrs Mills is a favourite teacher at Shelly Park School, and you can find her in Pod 3. She loves dogs and enjoys reading. The Dove Keeper is the most memorable story she has ever read. Her favourite colour is blue and favourite sport is netball which she stills plays from time to time. In the holidays Mrs Mills enjoys going to Taipa, in the far north, and when she was a young girl, loved watching 'Mr Ed' the Talking Horse. Mrs Mills also enjoys cooking, eating, walking and just blobbing around the house. Her lucky number is 2 and besides teaching she would have loved to have been a hair dresser, or even a singer (and she does have an amazing voice).

Mr Rijns started teaching at Shelly Park School in 2017 after being a student teacher in Room 17. In 1999 Mr Rijns immigrated to NZ from South Africa and after school, he went to Auckland University where he got a Bachelor of Health Sciences and then a Masters in Teaching. When he was younger Mr Rijns wanted to be a surgeon or a paediatric doctor. He loves reading Dr Seuss's books and his favourite colour is blue. Mr Rijns enjoys exercising and listening to music for relaxation. Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran is one of his favourite songs, but he also likes Rosen Aus Dem Sϋden Opus 388 by Andrē Rieu. His special talent is playing the guitar and he loves to play music for his sister while she sings.

Mrs Robson is a teacher in Room 3a this year and before that she used to teach in Christchurch. She lives with her husband Darren and her two sons Zarnder and Fox. Mrs Robson loves Joy Cowley’s book Greedy cat and her special talent is cooking. For fun Mrs Robson enjoys fishing at her local beach. Mrs Rolfe is the head of Pod 4 and lives with Mr Rolfe and 2 naughty grey cats called Thomas and Patrick. She also has two adult children who visit regularly. Mrs Rolfe started as a young teacher at a small school in Waihi Beach, and has taught in countries including Papua New Guinea, Kuala Lumper in Malaysia, and Western Samoa. David Walliams is her favourite kids author because he’s a clever writer - some of his stories are funny while others are sad, but most of all he really knows how to hook the reader in. When Mrs Rolfe was young, she wanted to be an architect, and used to carry around a book of sketches of houses that she liked. Mrs Rolfe had a few jobs as a student, but her most favourite job was working for a vet. She loves animals! Her favourite colour is deep, dark, purply blue and she loves any music by Freddy Mercury or the rock band ‘Queen’. Did you know that Mrs Rolfe lived on a kibbutz in Northern Israel? We hope that Mrs Rolfe will be teaching at Shelly Park for a very long time.

Mrs Thomas is a full time reliever in the Junior School, and she shares Room 2 with Mrs Dove. She had always wanted to be a teacher when she was younger and has taught for many years around New Zealand (but she loves Shelly Park the most). Mrs Thomas has a busy life at home too, where she lives with her mini zoo which includes chickens, rabbits, fish, budgies and a couple of cats and a husband. She has five grandchildren who keep her entertained and she enjoys handcrafts like knitting, sewing and crocheting in her spare time. Mrs Thomas loves music of any kind and her favourite colours are pink and purple. Pamela Allen and Jez Alborough are two authors Mrs Thomas admires and any other author that makes people read.
Mrs Tomlinson started teaching at Shelly Park School in 2016 and you can find her in Pod 4. She lives in with her husband , her sons Matthew and Nicholas, and her twin daughters Sophie and Chloe. Her hobbies include cooking, reading and sewing, and her favourite children's author is David Walliams because he is so funny. Mrs Tomlinson's favourite subject to teach is maths because it is logical. A favourite song of hers is ‘Superheros’ and she loves the colour blue. Mrs Tomlinson, who originally comes from England, has lived in many different countries around the world and has also worked in schools in Australia.

Mrs Wansbury is a teacher in Room 16, in Pod 4. She likes spending time with her family in nature and she also likes baking. Her favourite colour is green and her favourite song is Viva la Vida by Coldplay. When she was six she wanted to be a trapeze artist in a circus. Mrs Wansbury loves Roald Dahl books. She lives with her husband, two children (Seth and Chaleli) and Sprinkles the cat. Mrs Wansbury was a teacher in South Africa before moving to New Zealand. She is good at fishing, she is creative, and she used to own a rescue centre. If you see her around remember to say, “Hi!”
Mrs Wessels has been teaching at Shelly Park School since 2004. She is a reading recovery teacher for the Junior School and also helps out with relieving. Mrs Wessels lives with her husband Sean and her two sons Bryce and Matthew. Her favourite colour is blue and she loves the song Stand Tall by Sam RB. In her spare time Mrs Wessels enjoys reading and watching her sons play sport.

Mrs Wood taught in Pod 4 for five years and is now teaching in Pod 2. She lives with her two daughters Rachel and Caity and two kitties called Gypsy and Pixie. When Mrs Wood was younger, she wanted to be a marine biologist, a hairdresser, or a teacher. Before she was a teacher, she was a photographer and she still loves taking photos of children, animals and the beautiful scenery in New Zealand. Mrs Wood loves the band Opshop and her favourite colours are purple and teal. Her favourite author is Gavin Bishop because she loves the Maori myths. During the summer, Mrs Wood enjoys camping and ocean swimming.
